Ugh.

This no-LJ-at-work thing is really making it impossible to keep up with everyone. x,x I didn’t realize until now just how many hours it takes to do more than the briefest skim through entries.

I’m sorry for my silence, everyone. I’m sure I’ve missed some important posts, along with the dozens of pointless and merely amusing ones, and I’m sorry about that.

News on my front? My Christmas shopping is 80% done. Christmas cards are late, I’m sorry, but they’re going out today. For the four outside the US expecting cards, I’m afraid they’ll be more New Year cards than Christmas ones. x,x

Saw ‘Flushed Away’ at the cheap theater this past week. The slugs were totally awesome. Not only did they scream like little girls, they sang in a variety of famous lounge singers’ voices.

Helped Jamie bake Mystee a cake yesterday. She seemed to really like it, so yay for not FUBARing it. :K)

Bad News, offset by a hat!

Okay, the bad news: Work just blocked Livejournal. I won’t be updating nearly as often as a result…and will take even *longer* to catch up on everyone’s entries. Sorry, all. x,x

On the flip side, ceestar42 made me a hat for Christmas! It’s beautiful, thank you kitten! And it came filled with Hershey kisses. :K9

My family and I trudged through the mud yesterday to get a Christmas tree, and came home moderately successful. Dad seems to have come down with the flu though. 9,9 Mom just had a biopsy done of a spot in the corner of her mouth, and it came back negative, thank God.

I’m working on Nerf guns again. I’m doing the base coats on the front section of my Longshot, and painting four Mavericks at once. Whee!

Metaquoted

It’s the first time, so I’m stupidly thrilled.

Some moron posted one of those big gaudy jewelry/purse ads in the *Cyberpunk* LJ community. I hate community-spammers, but this time the community had strict rules against such spam (and off-topic posts) and had an attentive moderator.

I let them have it. No profanity, just the best I could muster.

http://community.livejournal.com/metaquotes/5290848.html

“sulleneveryday: you can’t spell, your solicitous posts are flamebait, and hundreds of people want to strangle you with your severed ethernet cord. Spamming Livejournal in a desperate last-ditch effort to find a chump with taste bad enough to buy your garbage is reason enough for me to hope you commit emokku with a box-cutter. You are a waste of molecular motion. Your constituent atoms loathe themselves for composing you.”

Lots of friends?

Livejournal kind of messes with the definition of friends, doesn’t it? I think perhaps 20 people on my friendslist comment on my journal, out of nearly 200. That’s not counting any of the people I friended who never friended me back, (mostly celebrity-level furs, who have far too many people to keep up with as it is)
these are just the people who’ve added me to their friendslist at some point.

Now, I don’t mind that you’re all quiet. Most of you that never comment are probably just not that big into LJ and might look at it once in a week, if that. I figure if you’re watching me you must’ve seen something interesting/funny, and hopefully you continue seeing such today.

It’s just a little ironic that it’s a ‘friend’ list when it’s possible that the vast majority of your ‘friends’ are people you barely know or don’t know at all, and who never talk to you.

I’m guilty of it too! There are people I watch whose journals I read or at least skim, but I rarely venture a comment. Partially because I don’t feel I have the right to; I barely know ’em. And partially because not knowing them makes commenting kind of silly when you don’t know what to say. One young lady on my friend’s list was deeply affected by the Katrina disaster, and what can you say about that? What might offer hope? Encouragement?

If any of you are leery of commenting because you don’t know me well and vice versa, just go ahead. We’ll at least then have started getting to know each other. ;K)

Nostalgia

I was reading back through my journal today for lack of anything better to do, and I’m reviving some entertaining things. For those of you who missed it the first time… I give you the Thorax Cake!

Go here to find out more about it, http://www.theyrecoming.com/extras/pumpkinfest03/

Here’s a snippet from a quiz:
TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE (not in order):
1. I’m confused about my sexual orientation.
2. I’m often a slob.
3. I’ve never tossed a giant squash out of a car doing seventy-miles an hour.

So,

I’m doing a paper on blogs, and how I hope they’ll democratize journalism. But doing all this reading on blogs has me wondering…

Why did you start a blog/journal?

What keeps you posting?

Is it that interesting to keep up with the lives of people you’ve met a handful of times if *at all* in real life?

What in a blog/journal holds your interest?

Proton pack update

Did a lot of work tonight.

First, the cyclotron. When you see red lenses in this thing you’ll recognize it.

This is my HGA, or Hydrogen Gas Accelerator. I vinyl-dyed the cap for it tonight. Tomorrow I’ll JB weld it to the cylinder, then goop the fittings into place, put the screws it, affix the label and washer…then look for wood blocks to goop to the inside of the other end for mounting purposes.

This tube is the ‘N-Filter’, which actually appears to pierce the cyclotron on its lower right rim. Most use a pringles can, but I’m trying to build a little sturdier than that. The seam needs puttied or something, then I can drill holes in it, paint it black, add a red stripe around the top rim, and put something shiny and sparkly along the inside of the holes to make it truly look like some kind of filter.

My spacer. I hate this thing. It seems whatever glue I use, it just won’t hold! Anyways, I measured and arranged and used a candle to heat a styrene strip so I could bend it to the shape it’ll need to hold. Here it is without the top or upper sides so you can see how it’s made.

And here it is nearly as it will look when finished, but unpainted.

Finally, my repainted toy-trap is looking better. Still needs some work, but I’m very happy with what the Dull Kote did to it. Took off that obnoxious glisteny wet-paint shine.

I got an email tonight saying my mindmap was ready. I don’t even remember entering for one, it was so long ago. o,o Here it is though!

Wearable Warnings – Coat bristles when wearer is annoyed…then shocks.

Electrostatic clothing that ‘bristles’ in warning if accosted, then delivers a shock if the accoster persists. Pretty neat idea, and I can certainly see it becoming a fashionable self-defense measure. What happens if it gets wet though?

Oh, and here’s my LJ-friend collage. Tis pretty! Collage!
